October 1: Welcome to Cyber Security Awareness Month!
October is Cyber Security Awareness Month! And although we don't think that Cyber Security awareness is something to cover just once in the year, we are dedicating this month to raising awareness about digital safety.
In an increasingly connected online world, protecting information isn't just the IT department's role; it's everyone's responsibility. Throughout October we'll explore simple yet effective steps you can take to safeguard your personal and professional digital life. From strong passwords to spotting scams, each day will bring new insights and actionable tips.
Let's make this month a commitment to building a more secure online environment for ourselves, our families and our work places. Stay tuned for daily tips!
Cyber Security Awareness Month is an annual global campaign held every October. Since 2004 it's aim has been to promote safer online behaviour across the world.
The 2025 campaign centres on "Secure Our World", supported by the message, "Stay Safe Online". The aim is to encourage individuals and organisations to adopt practical habits that strengthen digital security.
"Wherever there is technology there needs to be cybersecurity"
Implementing cybersecurity best practices is important for organisations of all sizes to protect personal, financial and sensitive information.
Why is Cyber security so important?
Almost every aspect of our lives, from banking to shopping to education and healthcare we rely on digital systems. This widespread connectivity, while convenient, creates vulnerabilities. Cyber security isn't just about preventing hacks; it's about protecting our fundamental rights to privacy, safeguarding our finances, preserving sensitive personal data and ensuring continuity of essential services that underpin society.
For businesses and organisations, robust cybersecurity protects intellectual property, customer trust, and operational integrity against costly disruptions and reputational damage. It's everyone's responsibility, because a single weakest link can compromise an entire system.
Throughout October, we'll explore simple yet effective steps you can take to safeguard your personal and professional digital life. From mastering strong passwords and enabling multi-factor authentication to spotting deceptive scams and understanding data privacy, each day will bring new insights and actionable tips. Let's make this month a commitment to building a more resilient and secure online environment for ourselves, our families, and our workplaces. Stay tuned for daily tips and join us in making the digital world a safer place for all!
💡Today's Cyber Tip: Start with a Password Check-Up!
As it's the first day of Cyber Security Awareness Month, your daily tip is to take five minutes to assess your passwords.
Go to one of your most important online accounts (like your primary email, banking app, or social media). Does it have a strong, unique password? Is it at least 12 characters long, with a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols? If not, change it now! This small action is a huge step towards better online security. Could you turn on MFA?
