Getting Started with AI (Artificial Intelligence)

We've been asked by some of our customers what they need to consider when thinking about using AI to improve job efficiency as a time saving exercise or part of CPD, so staff related.
This article puts together some available resources as an initial step.
Remember if the plan is to use public models it is important to brief your staff on the do's and don'ts  around using names and any data or information directly relating to your organisation, i.e. actual data.  Consider documenting what the organisation considers appropriate use of AI and also deliver this through a staff briefing.

Ensure there is a procedure or way of recording any problems or mishaps when using AI, such as entering inappropriate data, or personal data.  This could be reported using our data breach log, if you are a Data Protection Education customer.

There may be several reasons why staff might benefit from using AI in their work, for example in teaching and lesson planning for teachers:

1. Time-saving tools - by automating time consuming tasks, providing feedback and organising work, giving staff more time.
2. Data driven insights - it can identify trends, evaluate the effectiveness of strategies and improve outcomes.
3. Personalised learning - when used in schools by analysing student data.
4. Ability to turn prompts into audio, video and images (or writing text).
5. Monitoring, predicting, analysing.

Some tools that you already use may already be using AI.

Caution:
  • Not all result data is accurate.
  • Data may be inappropriate, so there should be caution when used around children.
  • Data could be taken out of context.
  • The information may be out of date, made up or biased.
  • Data could have been used without permission.
