You thought BA was a large fine?

You may have seen the announcement in the news about the ICO fine for British Airways "Following an extensive investigation the ICO has issued a notice of its intention to fine British Airways £183.39M for infringements of the General Data Protection Regulation

(GDPR)" (

I don't believe that this will be the last large fine of the summer, as the supervisory authorities conclude post GDPR investigations. Data Protection isn't going away and the size of the enforcement actions demonstrate the seriousness with which the authorities take data protection breaches.

And it's not just in Europe. This graphic from the International Association of Privacy Professionals shows the seriousness with which the US authorities take (or at least are starting to take) data protection, especially relating to the big tech companies. Again, I don't believe this will be the last we hear for enforcement again Facebook and other social media companies.
